In this special class, you will learn the timeless art of making Gumbo. Not just any Gumbo, but award winning Gumbo! You’ll learn the steps that go into creating this specialty dish, from the Holy Trinity and how to make a roux from scratch, to making signature spice blends and creating a dish that is known throughout the South and beyond. You’ll discover the layers to making a legit Gumbo base, while also learning what proteins make it standout from the others. You will also gain different knife skills and cooking techniques that will make your friends and family think you went to culinary school. Lastly, you will learn how to make the perfect fluffy rice that will absorb that delicious Gumbo base that you worked so diligently to make.

Will

Chef Will Staten, is a Las Vegas based chef that is very esteemed in both the kitchen area as well as on the competition circuit. Having competed in the World Food Championships, MasterChef, the Food Network and multiple titles in chef battles throughout it Las Vegas, Will brings his flair to everything he touches. After having been in restaurant openings from PF Changs, corporate level of Chili’s, Hofbrauhaus consultant and special events chef, Commander’s Palace and more, Chef Will has embarked on a food truck journey that now showcases his heritage and culinary background. As a lifelong student and chef, passing on his knowledge and expertise has been his focus as of late. When Will isn’t cooking, he’s busy creating and collaborating, as he has his own product line and sponsorships.

  • What to bring
  • All you need is an apron for each participant, a clean kitchen with space to work, the usual equipment such as pots, knives, mixing spoons and serve-ware.
  • Anyone with long hair should have it tied back so we don’t get an extra ingredient we don’t need in our creation.
  • f there are any allergies or aversions please let us know so we can cater the ingredients to your family’s needs (ie-gluten allergies, specific meats and seafood allergies, etc.)
